Jenn-Air Refrigerator Major Issues

Jenn-Air Refrigerator is noisy or loud

Jenn Air refrigerators excel at running quietly. So when you notice your Jenn Air refrigerator making noise, it can be cause for concern. Not only are appliance noises distracting, but you want to be sure everything is OK.

We’ve compiled a list of the most common sounds you may hear from your refrigerator to help you troubleshoot. This will help differentiate between what you can fix yourself and when to call a professional.

Jenn Air Refrigerator Making Noise? Try This…

Nobody wants a noisy refrigerator squawking at them from the kitchen. Take a look at these different noises to figure out your next steps.

Buzzing Noise

My refrigerator is making a buzzing noise?! A Jenn Air refrigerator making noise that sounds like a buzzing or clicking sound is most likely coming from the water valve. You’ll hear this sound if the water valve is not connected to the water supply or when the ice maker is experiencing trouble.

Check the water supply line to ensure all connections are secure and that there are no kinks in the water line.

If the refrigerator is not connected to a water supply, make sure the ice maker is turned off. Depending on your model, the ice maker can be turned off either by raising the wire arm into the locked position or turning the ice maker switch to OFF inside the freezer.

Rattling Or Vibrating

A Jenn Air refrigerator rattling is not uncommon. The rattling is likely a result of one of the following:

  • Flow of water through the water line
  • Flow of refrigerant through the cooling system
  • Items stored on top of the refrigerator
  • The refrigerator not being level

The flow of water and refrigerant is part of normal operation and of no concern. However, if the refrigerator is too close to the wall, you may hear the water line rattling against the wall behind the refrigerator. To resolve this, just pull the fridge out a smidge to give the water line a bit more room.

If you have items stored on top of the refrigerator, remove the items to remove the rattling sound.

Check to see if the refrigerator is directly on the floor. If the leveling legs are not raising it off the floor, refer to your Use and Care Guide for directions for your specific model to adjust the leveling legs and level the refrigerator.

Thumping Sound

If you have a Jenn Air refrigerator making noise that sounds like thumping, you can breathe easy! Thumping can be heard during the normal operation and is usually caused by the water line during a fill cycle or the ice dumping into the ice bin.

Beeping

The door ajar alarm will cause a Jenn Air refrigerator beeping sound to alert you to the problem. The alarm will continue to beep every 2 minutes if left unattended.

Make sure all doors and drawers are completely closed, and that all door seals are clean and undamaged to turn off the alarm.

Squeaking Or Grinding

Is your Jenn Air refrigerator making noise like squeaking or grinding? Here are a few reasons why this happens:

  • Doors were not installed properly
  • Doors are rubbing against cabinets or other surfaces
  • Refrigerator is not level
  • Fan motor is obstructed or defective

Refer to your Use and Care Guide to check the installation instructions for the doors. Additionally, inspect all around the refrigerator and open the doors while observing the external hinge area to make sure the doors aren’t rubbing against anything.

Make sure the refrigerator is level. Your Use and Care Guide will have instructions to level the refrigerator based on your specific model.

Inspect the fan motors to ensure they are free from obstruction. If they are and the noise is coming from the fan motor, it may need to be replaced.

Troubleshooting doesn’t always do the trick. Noise may be a sign of a bigger problem, so if the noise continues, call the expert technicians
