Frigidaire Dryer Major Issues

Frigidaire Dryer Dryer Not Turning On

Do you have a Frigidaire dryer that won’t turn on? Nothing can be more frustrating than throwing some damp clothes in your dryer, trying to turn it on, and thinking to yourself “why won’t my dryer turn on?” Luckily for you, we’ve gathered some simple ways to troubleshoot this common problem.

Check for These Issues If Your Frigidaire Dryer Won’t Turn On

#1 – Dryer Not Getting Power

Your Frigidaire dryer may not be starting for a simple reason; it might not be getting power. Check that the power cord is plugged in and isn’t sitting loose in the outlet. Also, make sure that your dryer isn’t plugged in using an extension cord.

Another thing to check is whether your circuit breaker has tripped. If so, it will need to be reset for your dryer to start running again.

#2 – Dryer Door Not Closed All the Way

If your Frigidaire dryer stopped working, another thing to double-check is whether the dryer door is fully latched shut. Your dryer won’t start running unless it’s firmly latched shut due to safety reasons.

Pro Tip: Always be careful to avoid slamming the door closed as this is a common cause of dryer not starting issues.

#3 – Wrong Cycle Options Selected

If your Frigidaire dryer won’t turn on, there could be another issue such as having the wrong options selected. Some of these options include the delayed start option, a control lock, or the child lock feature.

Each dryer is different and runs its own way. First, be sure to press the start button firmly and hold for a few seconds. If that doesn’t work, reference your model’s use and care guide.  It can show you how to disengage any of the options above that prevent it from starting right up.

#4 – Faulty Dryer Start Switch

And speaking of the start button, the switch behind the start button in the main control panel could be where your problem lies. This start switch is engaged when you press the start button, and if it fails, your dryer won’t start.

Listen for the “click” sound when you press the start button. If you don’t hear it, the start switch may be broken. You can use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity and replace it if you find that it’s faulty.

#5 – Blown Frigidaire Dryer Thermal Fuse

If your Frigidaire dryer won’t turn on, the most common issue has to do with your thermal fuse. This piece of the dryer is designed to shut the unit down if it gets too hot and begins to overheat. One of the most common causes of a blown thermal fuse is clogged dryer vents. Be sure to inspect them for excess lint and debris to avoid future breakdowns and safety issues.

Access the thermal fuse and test is using a multimeter. If you don’t find continuity, the part will need to be replaced. This component is also a common culprit when your dryer won’t heat up, so take any steps you can to avoid overheating.
