Frigidaire Dishwasher Major Issues

Frigidaire Dishwasher leaking

As alarming as dishwasher leaks can be, this messy problem usually has a straightforward fix. Why is my Frigidaire dishwasher leaking water? A dirty or damaged door gasket won’t provide a watertight seal, causing leakage during wash cycles. Fix dishwasher leaks by troubleshooting these common causes and solutions.

Frigidaire Dishwasher Leaking? Here’s How to Solve the Problem.

Though leaks may be a common dishwasher problem, the right solution largely depends on the source. Here’s how to put a stop to puddles by pinpointing where they originate.

1. Dishwasher Detergent Issue

Using the wrong detergent or too much of the right one is a common reason for a dishwasher leaking water. Adding detergent that’s not dishwasher-specific can result in an excess of suds that obstructs water flow, causing leaks from the door. Meanwhile, adding too much of the right detergent can also cause oversudsing and leaks as well. If you find your Frigidaire dishwasher leaking and notice more than ½ inch of suds inside, a detergent issue is likely the problem.

To avoid oversudsing, refrain from using anything other than dishwasher detergent in your machine. When adding the appropriate detergent to the dispenser, make sure you measure accurately, according to the package instructions.

2. Dishwasher Gasket is Leaking

When operating properly, a Frigidaire dishwasher gasket creates a watertight seal around the door, preventing leaks during wash cycles. However, over time, this rubber gasket can dry out and crack, resulting in leaks from the door. Even if the gasket isn’t damaged, a buildup of grease or food particles can compromise the seal and cause leaks.

To determine if your gasket is working properly, close the door around a dollar bill so that half remains outside. If the bill is easily pulled away from the door, the gasket isn’t functioning optimally. While a damaged gasket should be replaced, dirt and debris can be wiped away to restore its function.

3. Dishwasher Spray Arm Malfunction

A Frigidaire dishwasher leaking water may also be suffering from a spray arm malfunction.

Several possible issues can prevent spray arms from working properly, causing leaks:

  • Incorrect loading: Overloading the dishwasher or placing items improperly on racks can cause obstructions that block the spray arms’ rotation, causing puddling and leaks. Avoid overloading racks and always rotate the spray arms by hand before starting a wash cycle to make sure they circulate properly.
  • Clogs: Without regular maintenance, spray arm holes can become clogged with debris, interfering with spraying and resulting in leaks.
  • Damage: Cracks or holes in the spray arm assembly can leak water during a wash cycle, causing puddles and overflow. If the spray arms show any signs of damage, they must be replaced.

4. Defective Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is located on or near the dishwasher’s water hose, controlling water flow from your home supply. If the valve is defective, it may drip water as it flows through the hose, resulting in your dishwasher leaking underneath. When this happens, you may also notice your dishwasher not starting because it can’t fill. Faulty water inlet valves are not repairable and should be assessed and replaced by a professional dishwasher repair service.

Is your Frigidaire dishwasher leaking from bottom even if the water inlet valve works properly? If so, check the hose to make sure it’s properly connected to the dishwasher and your home water supply. Tighten any loose valves and inspect them for damage that could cause leaks, necessitating a professional repair.
